TROUTJIG.COM is a family run business based in St. James, Missouri. The King family,
Roy, Sherrie, Amy, Shea, and Tyler started tying the Rubber-Leg jig in 1994 to use at
Maramec Spring Park. It was an instant success. The trout would swarm the lure like
they’ve never seen. Their close friends immediately wanted to get their hands on this
new found secret. With their friend’s help, they started testing many different color
schemes and took note of which ones worked best.
Year after year, more and more people wanted to use the jig, so in 1998 the King’s decided
to sell them at DJ’s, a local bait shop in town. Amy, a senior in High School at the time,
took on the task of tying for the bait shop. She continued for another year while in college,
but the following year, school work and basketball took precedence and the vice was handed down
to her sister, Shea. Shea was still in High School and tied for a full season, but Student Council
(President), Sports, and another job, kept her from continuing the next season. Roy, Sherrie, and
Tyler took over from there.
In 2002, they started selling the Tinsel jig at DJ’s as well. With the abundant success of the green
and white rubber-leg jig, anglers were reluctant to try something different, but each year the
Tinsel has grown in popularity.
As the demand for their jigs continued to grow, Roy started using the winter months to build an inventory.
In the 2004 season, anxious anglers quickly dwindled the supply halfway through the season, requiring all
family members to break out their vices.
Don Luna, Amy’s fiancé, was introduced to trout fishing midway through the 2004 season. Although
skeptical at first of Amy’s successful fishing stories using these jigs, he can now be found any given
weekend trout fishing with the Kings making his own success stories.
Nearly 8,000 jigs were sold in 2005 out of DJ’s alone. TROUTJIG.COM was launched in early 2006 to give
anglers in the rest of the country a chance to enjoy these jigs as much as the already satisfied customers.
